This discursive heritage also informed the reception of Rousseau's ideas in the next century under different circumstances. His discursive appropriation within this mid-century environment explains the shape of his reforms and how his ideas could be attractive not only to male detractors of feminine taste, but also to eighteenth-century Frenchwomen. By shifting feminine taste's site and purview into the domestic realm, he further undercut the honnête vision and refocused the discussion. He thus contributed to an ongoing discursive evolution away from the honnête understanding of women's taste which he both inherited and altered. Beyond this immediate context, though, Rousseau was intervening in a long-running debate about feminine taste. Clearly, Rousseau intended his comments, which were embedded within a complex, anxious, mid-century cultural context, to be reformist. This article seeks to better historicize Jean-Jacques Rousseau's discussion of women's taste in Emile (1762).

When I do listen to an audiobook, it’s usually with the physical book (or ebook) with me, which is what I did for this re-read. I will preface this review with the information that I do not listen to lots of audiobooks – it’s not a format that works well for me. What Evie doesn’t know is that Mateo’s wolf has a mind of his own. But the desperation in his eyes when he begs her to help him softens her heart and convinces her to bend the rules. So, when a distempered, dangerous werewolf strolls into the bar and almost strangles one of her late-night customers, she’s ready to bounce him through the door. They’re known for being moody and volatile. Evie Savoie has always obeyed the house rule of her coven: no werewolves. Convinced he’s cursed, he needs the help of a powerful witch before he literally goes insane. His wolf has taken up residence in his head, taunting him night and day with vividly violent and carnal thoughts. Unable to shift for three months, Mateo Cruz knows all too well. What’s the worst thing that can happen to a werewolf? She held it to the light and gave a little cry.
